Seiko was born in a small town in Tokyo, Japan in 1881 where entrepreneur Kintaro Hattori opened a shop repairing clocks and watches. Eleven years later he bought the Seikosha factory, where much innovation and tradition would stem from. In 1923 Earthquake Kanto wrought destruction on the factory. In 1924, after the factory was rebuilt, a new watch came on the market, debuting the Seiko name on its watchcase. Over the next few decades, ceaseless effort was poured into creating a constantly evolving watch offering, chiefly to compete with Swiss watches on the market at the time.

From Diashock technology that protects mechanical elements, to the release of the first dive watch, Seiko began to turn heads. Titanium dive watches and the Spring Drive were both inventions that surpassed technology in their time, introduced immense possibility into the watch making sphere, and set Seiko ahead.

Seiko designs and develops its own movements in-house, and has been at the forefront of watch movement technology. Today, Seiko’s uniquely Japanese aesthetic is enhanced by an effortlessly smooth second-hand movement, which glides across the dial – this made possible by the Tri-synchro Regulator, a proprietary speed control mechanism exclusive to Seiko.
